Drake & Caribbean Culture
Written by admin on January 3, 2020
Drake’s recent interview with Rap Radar has been trending due to rumors naming him a “culture vulture”. Drake has been known to use Caribbean beats, mixing that with his Canadian style. But has Drake mistaken his interest in Caribbean music with appropriation?
The answer is no. Drake has so much respect for different cultures and supports the Caribbean culture. He has become more educated on the culture by studying deeply rooted artists who have been featured on some of his tracks. He explains that he gives credit where it is due and is not trying to take away from the culture or pretend to be a person that he is not. Instead he has adapted the culture in small ways and aims to give opportunity to people in that culture while continuing to learn from it.
Drake has been taking time this year to focus more on self-development as he shifts his focus towards recognizing how many battles he has overcome and how many accomplishments he has made over the years. He is also slowly but surely planning to work on his next album. We are excited to hear what next Caribbean artist he works with in the future. Keep the vibes going up Drake!
